Longmynd Adventure Camp
The Longmynd Adventure Camp (a registered charity) has provided respite break accommodation for deserving children for more than 50 years. A Marches Energy Agency renewable energy survey and escalating energy bills convinced the Trustees to invest in three solar energy systems.
In 2011 the Trustees secured Planning Consent and appointed Salop Energy Commercial to install a solar thermal water heating and 4kW solar PV systems on the main Mess Hall and another solar thermal system for the main shower block.
All the works were completed in April and we gifted the Camp a free upgrade to 16 Sanyo HIT250 solar PV modules and a brand new intelligent LPG boiler. The Camp, which we’ve adopted as our favoured local charity, accommodates over 700 children p.a. Many of these children have never had a holiday before or visited the countryside.
Ludlow MP Philip Dunn and the 1st Pontsbury Guides visited the Camp post installation for a special Harry Potter weekend. No need to cast a spell over the solar energy systems to get them to work. The solar PV system which faces SEE generated over £900 of electricity in just 16 weeks.
In September 2011 Don Rogers, the charity’s Chairman dropped us line – his letter opened ‘I’d like to report a Murder!? and then went to report the sad death of the Camp’s energy bills thanks to their solar energy systems.
